Traders of marine modern market a sister market to the famous Onitsha main market Anambra state has lauded Gov.charles soludo achievements so far in office noting that the state especially Onitsha area has not had it so good as they are having it now.

Making this assertion while speaking to newsmen on behalf of the entire traders of the market at the end of the launching of Soludo Support Group (SSG) a support group formed by chief Chinedu Nwoye Gov.soludo deputy chief of staff, to highlight the achievements of the governor so far in the state held recently in the market, chief Uzoma Onyeabo the chairman of the market noted that Gov. Soludo has so far done well in provision of infrastructural developments like quality roads construction, employments especially in state educational sector, youths empowerment programmes, provision of affordable health care especially to the vulnerable, intelligent, pregnant women, accountability in state administration, improvement in state IGR generation, security, repositioning of commerce and market development etc and stated that they traders of the market are very happy with his achievement just as he said that they traders will like him to go for another tenure in office if he wishes.

Stating that the entire traders are happy for Gov. Soludo achievements on construction of vital roads that links the market, like Niger street, creek road, Zik avenue, Portharcourt road, dualization of Iweka road among others, he intoned that these achievements show’s that Gov. Soludo has the interest of  traders at heart.

On his achievements since he took over the leadership of the market and the challenges facing the market so far, he listed his achievements to includes rehabilitation  of a link road to the market which commenced from sokoto road junction of market to the river Niger as well as land scapiing of another vital road that connect the market to main market abattoir, offsetting huge electricity bill amounting to N3million and making sure that  prepaid meter are provided for most lines of the market, employment of well experienced security operatives to minimize theft, provision of a 9kg fire extinguishers for all the line, attraction of government presence that made it possible for a 3000 liters solar energy powered borehole to be provided in the market.

 On challenges confronting the market, he specifically said that the market major challenge which is like heavy burden on them which they want the government to come to their rescue immediately is the ongoing litigation between the Anambra state government and some powerful individuals on the true ownership of the market which they inherited in 2008. He said that regrettably a judgment was recently handed down which the anambra state government which they are their tenants lost prompting them the traders to go for an appeal which is currently pending in appeal court in Enugu.

He said as it is now, that they are appealing to Gov. Soludo to wade in and help them by taking up the matter and put in their weight to ensure that the matter is resolved in their favor adding that they should not fold their hands and allow these powerful individuals to take away large revenues from store levies as well as other IGR over five thousand traders of the market are paying to the coffers of the government

Said he, ‘‘we are calling on the Anambra state government to help us to recover this asset, “we are appealing to them to take this matter serious and don’t listen to vested interests, we have over five thousand traders who has dependants, so if the government will keep quiet and these powerful individual take the market  what it means is that these traders and their dependants are going to suffer, we  are diligent on payment of our store levies, IGR, etc, out of 259 markets in Anambra state our market marine modern market was one of the eleven markets given award for diligent payment of  IGR on 9th June 2024.so government should wake, up and help us’’.
