In commemoration of 2024, International Civil Defence Day(ICDO), the Anambra State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr Olatunde Maku, has enjoined citizens to appreciate NSCDC in her efforts in protecting lives and property of citizens.
Maku said this year's celebration with the theme “Honor Heroes and Promote Safety Skills” seeks to recognize both the brave men and women who protect our communities during disasters, as well as the importance of widespread first aid training and emergency preparedness.
According to him "As we remember those who displayed great commitment and bravely, overcame challenges to inspire us with their remarkable actions, there is need therefore for every one of us to discover our inner strength , be brave and work towards a world where courage has no limits" he said.
Earlier, the Assistant Commandant General in charge of Zone K, Awka, ACG Solomon Iyamu fsi said NSCDC has been an integral part of Safety and Security Operations of the nation in protecting people and communities from natural disasters, accidents, and other emergencies.
He called on members of the public to pay attention to the issue of public safety with strict adherence to the safety precautions awareness message.
The celebration, held annually on March 1, reminds people of the role played by Civil Defence personnel in protecting lives and property.
This year's celebration underscore the global role Civil Defenders play to protect our communities during disasters, as well as the importance of widespread first aid training and emergency preparedness with the concept of promoting safety as priority among all segments of society.
The event coincided with the third year anniversary of the appointment of the Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Audi,the passing of 2023 intakes, road walk , and inauguration of Safe School Project in the State.
Other sister security agencies who were present took turns to felicitate with NSCDC at the auspicious event.
Highpoint of the celebration was simulation exercise by the Safe School team, stripping and assembling of rifle, and parade.
In a press release by the state NSCDC Public Relations Officer, PRO, Mr. Okadigbo Edwin, it was a successful occasion.
